Did a Tsunami Hit New York?
We all know that Tsunamis can be deadly and dangerous, when Tsunamis occur in this day and age we have a lot more to lose then ancient times, because our homes, businesses and lifestyles all come crashing down with it. But recent studies from scientists have shown that New York City could have possibly suffered the fate of a Tsunami around 2,300 years ago.
Scientists are finding evidence from deposits, that the City could have suffered a large Atlantic Tsunami, which would have flooded the whole city. But what could have caused such devastation? Most scientists believe that the origin of the Tsunami was caused by a land slide. But other scientists are suggesting that it could in fact be the cause of an asteroid hitting the Earth’s surface.
But if it was the cause of a land slide then could this devastation happen again to New York? History has proven that when one specific area has an earthquake they tend to have regular ones every few years, and this is because the plates are moving, so what is there to say the same cannot happen with a Tsunami?
Hopefully we will all keep our fingers crossed that it does not occur because New York is currently one of the richest cities in the world, it is also a city that is by the sea so having such a huge wave hit the shore would be simply catastrophic, buildings are so tall in New York that the impact of the water would crush the structures and anything inside of them. Even if you were able to survive the water hitting you the sheer amount of buildings, vehicles and any other structure flying around would be hard to escape.
So I personally believe that scientists are wishing that it was an asteroid that caused this all them thousands of years ago, because if it in fact was a land slide change then there is a huge chance that it could happen again, but if it was caused by the impact of an asteroid then there is a huge chance that it may not happen again and if it did happen then it is highly unlikely to strike the same spot again.
Scientists are finding increasing evidence that this occurred 300BC and are hoping that it does not happen again because as well as there being a lot more structural buildings, the population in big cities are growing every year.
