Infrared Sauna – The Layman’s Way To Health

by Benjamin Wise

Once upon a time, a steam filled sauna was a luxury few could afford. Nowadays saunas are a common feature. However, many people feel that having a sauna means high electricity bills and high temperatures that few can stand.

Traditional steam saunas work on the premise of triggering sweating by exposing your body to very high heat. The sweating causes your muscles to relax and helps to detoxify the body. But you no longer need to obtain the benefits a sauna can give you at the cost of high electricity bills.

Infrared saunas are far less cumbersome and more efficient than a steam sauna because of the way they work. Instead of exposing the skin to heat externally, the infrared rays penetrate about about one inch into the skin, triggering the same relaxation and sweating a steam sauna will. Instead of essentially boiling your body, though, infrared saunas feel more like you’re basking in the warm morning sun.

These days’ a lot of people prefer infrared sauna to the traditional saunas. The infrared sauna is nothing like the traditional sauna. It’s more like sitting in the soothing morning sun without the harmful ultraviolet rays.

The infrared rays are electromagnetic rays that are shorter than radio waves and longer than visible light. The best part about infrared radiation is that it penetrates the skin to about an inch and heats it. In consequence, infrared produces same relaxing effect as the traditional sauna in low temperatures.

It may sound unbelievable, but saunas can even help in weight loss. The body is forced to work much harder to maintain functioning when exposed to high heat. Consequently, more calories are burned even though the body is stationary.

Sitting in a sauna is bound to be an appealing addition to any exercise regimen. In fact, a half hour in an infrared sauna can burn up to 600 calories in 30 minutes.

The deep penetration of infrared sauna can help in detoxifying body both at the skin level and cellular level. This can help in getting rid of toxins such as nicotine, cholesterol, etc. Many people get a lot of relief from their pains such as arthritis and other chronic pains.
